Amaç: Bu çalışmada psikiyatrik tedavi gören hastalar ve sağlıklı bireylerde nikotin bağımlılığı ve bununla ilişkili özellikleri saptamak amaçlanmıştır.Yöntem: Ayaktan izlenen ve DSM-IV-TR’ye göre klinik görüşme ile tanı konan 212 hasta ve 192 sağlıklı birey incelendi.Bulgular: Tüm hastalarda ve sağlıklı bireylerde, sırasıyla düşük nikotin bağımlılık düzeyi oranları % 26.4, % 74.6, orta nikotin bağımlılık düzeyi oranları %55.2, %44.8 ve şiddetli nikotin bağımlılık düzeyi oranları %100.0, %0.0 olarak bulundu. Hastaların %62.6’inde psikiyatrik bozukluğun ortaya çıkmasından önce, nikotin bağımlılığının olduğu saptandı.Tartışma ve Sonuç: Nikotin bağımlılığının toplam süre ve şiddetinin, ruhsal patolojiyle ilişkili olabileceği ancak mizaç özellikleri ile ilişkili olmadığı saptandı.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the features of nicotine dependence in psychiatric outpatients and healthy subjects.Method: We examined 212 randomize psychiatric outpatients diagnosed by clinical interview according to DSM-IV and 192 healthy subjects.Findings: The frequency of the low nicotine dependence level were 26.4% in all of the patients, and 74.6% in healthy subjects, the moderate nicotine dependence level were 66.2% in all of the patients and 44.8% in healthy subjects, the severe nicotine dependence level were 100.0% in all of the patients and 0.0% in healthy subjects. 62.6% of patients with nicotine dependence had been dependent before the onset of psychiatric disorder.Conclusion: The nicotine dependence may be related to the psychopathology with respect to its severity and total time. But, the nicotine dependence could not be related to the affective temperament traits with respect to its severity and total time
